The Chitwan national forest, our next destination, is located along the Narayani-Rapti river system which we had to navigate.
The first leg of our journey was by water.
Poling, not paddling.
One of the shelters in which we would live for the next few days and nights.
The dining hall.
We were hoping to see some tigers, but this is the closest we got -- tiger tracks in the sand.
One of our modes of transportation.
Monkeys overhead.
There is a real problem with poachers, who hunt the tigers and other endangered species, so several thousand Nepalese troops are stationed in and patrol the preserves.
Crocodiles.
Rhinos.
On the river.
And an alternative means of transport -- elephants.
