Zimbabwe Update -- The Opposiiton Speaks

Publius links to the website of the Sokwanele blog -- opponents of Mad Bobby Mugabe's despotic reign. In the linked post they highlight the developing connection between Mad Bobby and China.
They write:
Mugabe has now shown his true colours. This traitor is so intent on remaining in power that he is prepared to sell his country and his people into slavery to the Chinese.
Read the whole thing. It is certainly true that China has been aggressively expanding its presence in Africa, and that Mad Bobby, reaching back to his Maoist roots, has been particularly receptive. And, Mugabe's recent crackdown is coming to resemble in small-scale, Mao's despicable Cultural Revolution. But the opposition's language is a bit overblown. The most important reasons to oppose Mugabe are humanitarian, not geopolitical.

As an example. Reuters yesterday reported:
HARARE (Reuters) - Zimbabwe police have arrested more than 22,000 people as a blitz on illegal stores and shantytowns gathers pace, sending homeless people fleeing to the countryside, the state Herald newspaper said Wednesday.

The United States warned Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe's government the crackdown could lead to a violent backlash.

Zimbabwe's official Herald newspaper said police had arrested 22,735 people in a campaign the main opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) has called a political vendetta against residents of its urban strongholds.

This, not geopolitical concerns, is why Mad Bobby and his ZANU thugs must be opposed.

Read about it here.
