To clarify: the title is excerpted from Act 1 of Shakespeare's Love's Labour's Lost. The full quote goes: "Light, seeking light, doth light of light beguile; So ere you find where light in darkness lies, Your light grows dark by losing of your eyes." It's a warning against spending too much of your life in scholarly pursuits.

Rooting for Rio
Chicago and Tokyo have been eliminated from consideration for the 2016 Olympic games. Obama's trip to Copenhagen failed to convince the international committee. All things considered it's probably for the good. Recent revelations regarding the corruption surrounding Chicago's bid make the thought of allowing the Windy City to host the games more than a little off-putting. I'm also glad that Tokyo, with its preachy environmental moralizing, lost. We already suffer far too much of that stuff. Madrid would be nice, but I'm rooting for Rio.
