Iraq In the Balance

RhusLancia over at Iraqi Bloggers Central has a couple of good questions for those who feel that the only solution to the problems in Iraq is to put a strong man in place. He asks:

Why are so many people so quick to take democracy off the table? The democratic movement in Iraq is faltering, to be sure, but it has not yet collapsed.

Are critics willing to accept the measures necessary to establish the strong man's rule and to keep it in place. There will be mass brutality and suffering, perhaps genocidal policies, certainly the suppression of minorities.

Unfortunately, for many critics of the war no price is too high to pay for disengagement. That is because they think that the Iraqis are the only ones who will bear the burden of withdrawal.

Fools!
