Mystery Man

So the nicely-spoken young Senator from Cook County has decided that he can no longer continue his affiliation with Trinity UCC. As Peter Wehner notes, he has had to shed some important aspects of his past lately. He writes:
What Obama did today may have been politically necessary. It was certainly politically expedient. And it is yet one more blow to Obama’s image as a different kind of politician. In fact, as we’ve learned over the last few months, Obama appears to be a Chicago politician through and through. When he perceived a threat to his self-interest, he cut his ties to first his pastor and then his church, both of which he had expressed familial love and fidelity. This whole episode is deeply unattractive, even as it is deeply revealing.
Read it here.

So what we are left with is a choice between a hard-core lefty "liberation" cultist who is simply pretending to be close enough to the political mainstream to be acceptable to a majority of Americans, or a sleazy Chicago pol whose fundamental principles are, to say the least, highly negotiable. Neither is particularly attractive. It will be fun watching apologists for the Obamination twist themselves into knots trying to explain just what the Democrats have bought at this insane auction of a primary season.
