To clarify: the title is excerpted from Act 1 of Shakespeare's Love's Labour's Lost. The full quote goes: "Light, seeking light, doth light of light beguile; So ere you find where light in darkness lies, Your light grows dark by losing of your eyes." It's a warning against spending too much of your life in scholarly pursuits.

The Crimes of Saddam
There has been a lot of commentary in the blogosphere regarding the coverage of Saddam's trial -- how respectful and restrained the MSM has been, and how this restraint sanitizes the record of one of the world's most monstrous figures. Fortunately the European press feels no such scruples. Der Spiegel has a slideshow of highlights from Saddam's reign. Here are a couple of samples. Check out the whole thing here.
