To clarify: the title is excerpted from Act 1 of Shakespeare's Love's Labour's Lost. The full quote goes: "Light, seeking light, doth light of light beguile; So ere you find where light in darkness lies, Your light grows dark by losing of your eyes." It's a warning against spending too much of your life in scholarly pursuits.

Tom Sowell on "Spoiled Brats Politics."
Tom Sowell has a couple of nice short pieces on what he calls, "Spoiled Brat Politics" -- the confusion of "privileges" with "rights" and political action to secure privileges at the expense of others. He notes the phenomenon in the green movement, among disabled Americans, in the historical profession, on college campuses, in homeowner associations, and elsewhere. He rightly lables it "bigotry."
Read the first installment here.
The second installment is here.
He's right -- in today's affluent culture the politics of privilege has all too often become the politics of raw bigotry and, unfortunately, as Sowell points out, that has been winning politics.
