Hizbullah claimed it would be ready to discuss conditional disarmament if Israel withdrew from a disputed border area, the group's deputy leader Sheikh Naim Qassim said in Britain's Financial Times on Friday.
The leader mentioned a potential alternative for Hizbullah fighters to become a kind of "reservist army", coordinating activities with the Lebanese authorities, the Financial Times said. But he stipulated that talks could not take place while Israel remained in the Shebaa Farms area, a tiny disputed border area between Lebanon, and Israel's Golan Heights, Reuters reported.
This is an improvement over the previous refusal to disarm. Now they're discussing face-saving gestures and a potential role for Hizbullah in a united, free Lebanon. There's a long way to go, but the journey of a thousand miles... whatever.
