Things are Getting Nasty in Kyrgyzstan

Registran.net has a series of posts on what is happening in Kyrgyzstan. A few weeks ago things looked very hopeful, but now the mood is changing...

Early reports were that the new Kyrgyzstan leadership was looking westward and would democratize the country's politcal culture, but now there's this:

-- The new Kyrgyz foreign minister has traveled to Moscow to pledge "eternal friendship" to Russia and promises to meet all obligations incurred by the past government.

-- Pro-democracy activists are feeling disillusioned in the wake of widespread disorder and looting.

-- The new government has outlawed all protests during election season.

-- An opposition leader has been physically attacked.

Not good..., not good.

Read about it here. Just scroll down -- there are several links.

Once again we are seeing that there are definite limits to the democratic reform imperative.
