Post Of The Week

Idan, over at Pixane.net, posts some excellent, and eminently sensible commentary on the fake-picture scandals and the bloggery they have engendered.

A sample from a much larger post:

In truth, altering photographs is no different than what writers do when they are composing an article — their view colors their writing all the time, and nobody criticises them for altering their story before it goes to press. Images, however, are not (yet?) treated as a mutable creation, which makes them dangerous tools in the hands of those who seek to deceive. That the blogging world stood up and refused to accept Hajj’s (and Reuters’) attempt to bear false witness to an event in any degree, is important. We trust our eyes implicitly — why should we allow the only eyes we have in remote parts of the globe to grow cataracts?

Only one of several excellent points made in this post. Read the whole thing here.

Hat tip, neo-neocon -- another sensible blogger.
