Well, is the polar bear population declining or growing? There are "scientists" on both sides of the question. American politicians side with the declinists, while the people who actually live in polar bear territory claim to be seeing more and more of the nasty critters.
This article in the Nunatsiaq News fairly describes the controversy and who is lining up where. All sides seem to be engaging in ad hominem attacks rather than objective scientific study.
