Correcting the Correctors

Media Matters for America, the left-wing media watchdog organization, took FOX News to task for a piece in which Brit Hume and Bill Bennett suggested that FDR's proposals for annuity accounts were similar to, and therefore an endorsement of, President Bush's proposals to reform Social Security. So far, so good. But in its initial release, the Media Matters critique then went on to claim that FDR's proposals were similar to, and therefore supportive of, an alternative reform plan advocated by Congressional Democrats. That, too, turns out to be false. So we have a case of dueling distortions as both sides try to capture the mantle of FDR. Verrrrry interrrresting.

Read the corrected press release here.

I give credit to Media Matters for correcting their own errors, although the correction could have been featured more prominently in their press release.
