The Fingers of Freedom

That was a really stupid and disgusting stunt pulled tonight by some Republican members of Congress. The ink-stained fingers of freedom are a blue badge of courage. Only those who put their lives on the line to further the course of freedom in Iraq should display them. Particularly obnoxious was Tom DeLay posturing with his blue finger. Would he wear an unearned Silver Star to show his solidarity with the troops? I would hope not.

It does seem to me that they could have found a subtler and more dignified way of basking in that particular moment. It's not like there weren't plenty of reporters and cameras around to report whatever gesture they made. It seemed more like a sports-fan or rally gesture than a Joint Session of Congress moment.

Hi Jonathan,

I told you we agreed on most things.

Best,
