Bob Casey, comfortably ahead in the polls [here], is trying to do absolutely nothing that might change that situation. Unfortunately, that seems to mean he is determinedly doing nothing at all.
Alex Charyna reports that the Casey camp has refused to commit to any formal debates with Rick Santorum but has reportedly agreed to a joint appearance over Labor Day weekend on Meet the Press. Gee, I wonder how many people will see that.
Santorum is desperately trying to get as many debates as possible, convinced that he will be able to exploit Casey's limitations as a public speaker. Casey, meanwhile, is pulling a Cynthia McKinney and refusing to even discuss debates.
Read about it here. What is sad is that Santorum at this point is really looking and sounding desperate. At the same time Casey's people are showing absolutely no confidence in their candidate and are trying to hide him from public scrutiny. This does not bode well for the people of Pennsylvania. At least they should get a reasonable chance to see and hear who and what they are voting for.
UPDATE:
Read George Will's brief overview of the Pennsylvania Senate race and its national significance here.
He sees a close race that might well decide which party controls the Senate.
