Steele Moves Up

According to the Washington Times Maryland Lt. Gov. and losing Senate candidate, Michael Steele will be chosen to replace Ken Mehlman as Chairman of the Republican National Committee. [here]

This is a superb choice. Steele is bright, dynamic, articulate and engaging. He handles himself well on camera. He nearly pulled off a victory this year in a State where Democrats outnumber Republicans two to one. And, he confirms the Republican Party's commitment to reach out to Black Americans. I can't think of a better person to be the public face of the party.

About six months ago Steele made waves when he fired the consultants Mehlman and the RNC sent down to guide his campaign and hired local talent. At the time it was portrayed as a mark of desperation on Steele's part, but as it turned out, he understood far better than the RNC what was going on in Maryland and through the nation. This announcement is the RNC's admission that Steele was right and they were wrong.
