I realize Charlie Rangel has a point to make about the military reflecting society as a whole; today's recruits are too white, too rural, too middle-class and too well-educated for their age group to truly represent the breadth of the society (and also too male).Read it here.
But the military's job is not to reflect society.
The military's job is to win wars.
To clarify: the title is excerpted from Act 1 of Shakespeare's Love's Labour's Lost. The full quote goes: "Light, seeking light, doth light of light beguile; So ere you find where light in darkness lies, Your light grows dark by losing of your eyes." It's a warning against spending too much of your life in scholarly pursuits.
