If you aren't familiar with James Lilek's work you have a treat in store for you. If you are a regular reader and haven't met Joe yet..., you still have a treat in store for you. Right now Lileks is doing something spectacular on his website. A few months ago he purchased a matchbook collection and is using it as the basis for some of the best humanistic writing I've seen in years. He has decided to imagine the life of the original owner, a man he calls "Joe Ohio." Every day he displays and writes about another of Joe's matchbooks and as he does he draws you deeper and deeper into Joe's life and the world he knew, a world once familiar but now long gone.
