"She who shall not be named" tells me that my post on Irma Vep is too long and convoluted. I agree, but I warned you all that I get prolix and I'm not gonna take the time to fix it. And, anyway, it's just a blog. The idea is to lay things out there as they come to me and not go through the endless process of writing, rewriting, circulating it to colleagues, rewriting, submitting it to a journal, rewriting, correcting galley proofs and wanting to rewrite it just one more time, etc. This is supposed to be fun. So there!
