The Global Internet Shift

That is the title of an article by Om Malik on a pattern emerging in internet traffic. The US market for internet services has plateaued while those of Asia are rapidly expanding. This is, he argues:

...a sign that the Internet is morphing from a mostly US-centric phenomenon to a truly global phenomenon. [T]here is a momentum shift happening – the power of the Internet is moving away from US to the new comers – China, South Korea and soon India.

It is a fascinating article. Read it here. And while you are at it, check out the commentary on this phenomenon at Sadagopan's weblog on Emerging Technologies here.

One thing is certain: the internet is far from achieving its mature form. Coming years will bring changes that we can hardly imagine, much less anticipate.

Om Malik has spotted the trend - Sadagopan is trying to understand this better - definitely brings to the force the technological, cultural and regional differences.. anycase the growth of internet is unstoppable in Asia.
