To clarify: the title is excerpted from Act 1 of Shakespeare's Love's Labour's Lost. The full quote goes: "Light, seeking light, doth light of light beguile; So ere you find where light in darkness lies, Your light grows dark by losing of your eyes." It's a warning against spending too much of your life in scholarly pursuits.

Scopes Revisited
Alex Johnson has a nice piece on MSNBC's website about the Scopes Trial. It's actually a fairly good treatment that corrects many of the misperceptions fostered by H. L. Menken and the utterly despicable "Inherit the Wind." But it is basically a synopsis of some of the points advanced in Edward Larson's Pulitzer Prize winning history, Summer of the Gods. I would recommend that anyone interested in the subject read Larson's book to find out just how inaccurate the public image of the trial and its participants is.
Read Johnson's article here. [he really should have cited Larson]
