Pennsylvania Politics -- Swann's Ascent

In the Republican contest to challenge incumbent Governor Ed Rendell Lynn Swann has easily won caucus votes in Western and Central Penna. But the question remained, could he win in the east? Well, that question has been answered. The Inky reports:

Bucks County Republicans are backing Lynn Swann for governor, further evidence that he is all but certain to get the state party's endorsement next week.

The Swann campaign yesterday released a letter from Bucks County GOP chairman Harry Fawkes saying he expects a "near-unanimous vote" for Swann from the county's delegation to the Republican State Committee meeting Feb. 11.

Read it here.

That about does it. Scranton's campaign is in disarray and fading fast. It's going to be Swanny against Fast Eddie this fall.

Now the question remains -- can Swann raise enough money to be competitive with Ed [the fundraising piranha] Rendell? Somehow I don't think that will be a problem.
