Maryland Politics -- Getting Interesting Again

The announcement last week that Sen. Sarbanes would not run for re-election has unleashed the dogs of war [politics actually, but in Maryland they're pretty much the same thing]. My neighbor, Kweisi Mfume, just announced today that he is a candidate to replace Sarbanes in the Senate. Former national director of the NAACP, Mfume previously had been a five term congressman from Baltimore. In the wake of last fall's elections Mfume had left the NAACP in a bitter dispute with Julian Bond. It's nice to see that he has something to work toward again. We were starting to worry about him.
