The parade of candidates to replace World Bank President, James D. Wolfensohn, continues. First the spotlight had fallen on Robert B. Zoellick, former US trade representative, but he decided to become Condi's assistent at State. Then last week word came that the likely successor was Paul D. Wolfowitz, the deputy secretary of defense. But yesterday Pentagon spokesmen said that Woflowitz would remain at Defense. The latest star candidate is Carly Fiorina, recently fired as CEO of Hewlett-Packard. The White House floated her name yesterday.
This is an important post and it seems that nobody is taking it very seriously. Neither Wolfowitz nor Fiorina has any experience or expertise in development. She has executive experience, but was hardly successful over at HP. Lets hope they get their act together soon. Wolfhenshon, I believe, is supposed to leave in May.
