Totten in Beiruit

Michael Totten of Spirit of America is in Beirut and is photoblogging his experiences. Check him out here. You won't get a balanced account -- he's an enthusiast for the opposition -- but he does make some important points. One of the most important is the fact that opposition to Syrian rule has forged an inter-faith nationalist coalition, symbolized in the above picture. This, as I have often noted, is essential if Lebanon is not to slide back into the civil disturbances of the past.

Totten also is blogging a continuing celebration on the streets of Beiruit. Those people sure know how to party. He notes the Hizbollah has stated that it will be participating in the festivities. Is that a hopeful or an ominous sign. Who knows? Stay tuned....
