To clarify: the title is excerpted from Act 1 of Shakespeare's Love's Labour's Lost. The full quote goes: "Light, seeking light, doth light of light beguile; So ere you find where light in darkness lies, Your light grows dark by losing of your eyes." It's a warning against spending too much of your life in scholarly pursuits.

Let The Games Begin -- Sandra Day O'Connor Announces Her Retirement
Everyone in Washington has been prepping for this moment for years and now it comes. Sandy is stepping down! [AP story here]
The political forces are armed and ready, tanned and rested. The networks are geared up for 24-hour non-stop coverage. This is their favorite game -- endless speculation! Which justice will step down and when? Well we're past that now. Well, then, who will Bush nominate? Endless chit-chat topic there. Once that is settled, will the Dems and the liberal activists be able to block him/her? What strategies will be used? Polls, Poll, Polls! If confirmed, what effect will he/she have on the court? More Polls, Polls, Polls..., Polls to the end of time....
Already it's making me yawn!
Oh well! It's the nature of our current system, for better or worse, and there are good arguments to be made on either side of that judgment.
Gentlemen and ladies..., start your engines.
And just think..., there could be another retirement soon and we can go through all this again....
Oh joy!
