To clarify: the title is excerpted from Act 1 of Shakespeare's Love's Labour's Lost. The full quote goes: "Light, seeking light, doth light of light beguile; So ere you find where light in darkness lies, Your light grows dark by losing of your eyes." It's a warning against spending too much of your life in scholarly pursuits.

Dirndl Dodges Bullet
For a while there it appeared that meddling EU bureaucrats would ban the dirndl -- the traditional dress worn by waitresses in Munich beerhalls -- as well as other revealing garb [on the grounds that it exposes workers to too much UV radiation -- I'm not kidding]. [here] Protests were launched all across the continent and even in the UK, where the Sun launched a "Save Our Jugs" campaign. Good news, though. Winfield Meyers reports that the wave of public revulsion has forced the bureaucrats to retreat, clarifying their dress code to note that it will not apply to beer hall workers. Whew. Deutch-Welle reports the reprieve here.
No, no, NO! I am not spending too much time on this stuff. This is important! Oktoberfest is coming soon! The Bavarian regional economy depends on the dirndl.
