Another Episode in the Collapse of Academic Authority -- Global Warming Studies

Patrick Michaels, writing in Reason Online notes a disturbing problem with peer-reviewed journals. He writes:
What is unusual is the especially shoddy nature of the current scientific review process on global warming papers.
Read it here.

The problem is much broader than this. Shoddy scholarship and review procedures are a major problem afflicting even the most prestigious medical journals [here] and of course much of what appears in Historical and Social Science journals is little more than ideologically-driven claptrap.

There is a continuing crisis in American scholarship that has seriously undermined academic authority across the boards. Few in academia are willing to confront it, but rest assured, unless major reforms are instituted the crisis will build and will overwhelm the entire scholarly establishment.
