To clarify: the title is excerpted from Act 1 of Shakespeare's Love's Labour's Lost. The full quote goes: "Light, seeking light, doth light of light beguile; So ere you find where light in darkness lies, Your light grows dark by losing of your eyes." It's a warning against spending too much of your life in scholarly pursuits.

Maryland Politics -- Steele Mania
The Republicans just can't wait. Lt. Gov. Michael Steele has not yet announced his candidacy for Paul Sarbanes' Senate seat, but already they're passing out campaign buttons. [hat tip, Hedgehog Report]
The lust with which Republicans are pursuing black candidates for major office is getting a bit ludicrous -- nearly as silly as the Democrats panting after veterans. I understand that both parties are trying to come to terms with long-term problems -- but they are doing so in superficial ways. The Democrats think that if the can run a veteran -- a McCain or a Kerry or that Hackett idiot in Ohio they will erase decades of weakness on national security affairs, and Republicans think that if they just run Colin or Condi or Steele or Swanny, they will break the Dems lock on the black vote.
Sorry guys, it just isn't that easy.
