In an earlier post I noted the case of six Roumanian men who dug up a corpse that they believed was that of a vampire and consumed its heart. Here [complete with the obligatory portrait of Vlad Tepes] is a more detailed followup article. Quit sniggering. These pervasive and persistent folk beliefs are important data for ethnographers and cultural historians. And, let's face it, they're kinda fun. Maybe Ambrose Bierce was right -- historians are just ''broad gauge gossips."
