One sure indication that an issue is receding into history is that people start fighting over how to interpret their roles in it. The NYT reports that the early days of the Iraq war were characterized by bitter tactical disagreements among US generals who all now seem to be trying to get their particular stories out. History, they say, is a never-ending dispute. I'm sure that this one is far from being resolved.
Also interesting in the article are hints of deeper institutional antagonisms among Defense, State, and the CIA who seem not to have been talking to each other at all during these crucial weeks.
