Watching Rev. Wright

Slate magazine reproduces a Frank Luntz type audience response to Rev. Wright's "God Damn America" address. It charts the immediate reactions of Blacks, Democrats, Republicans and Independents while they watched segments of Wright's taped sermons. Check it out here.

A few things stand out. First, whenever Wright disses Hillary, dials turned up across the board. Whatever their race or party, the test subjects tended to dislike Hillary. Secondly, black viewers as well as whites responded negatively to Wright's most extreme statements. That being said, the graphs are also striking evidence that Blacks and Whites view matters quite differently. Right at the beginning, the Black viewers' responses diverged from those of the White viewers, and though the lines tended to dip and rise at roughly the same points in the address, the disparity remained throughout.

Interesting.
