Howard Kurtz finally breaks his silence on the Eason Jordan affair. His reticence prompted a flood of denunciations on the blogosphere, but was probably for the best. His account doesn't reflect knee jerk impulses, but is reasoned and balanced. Way to go Howie. Read it here.
Of course, this doesn't end the matter. Jordan is under an obligation to spell out exactly what he meant and these allegations will have to be investigated thoroughly. It is disturbing to hear that Arab attendees congratulated him for his remarks.
Could the perception on the part of reporters that the US forces were out to get them account in part for the overly negative coverage they provided in the weeks running up to the election? I wonder.
UPDATE:
Michelle Malkin is far more critical of Kurtz' treatment than am I. See here.
