To clarify: the title is excerpted from Act 1 of Shakespeare's Love's Labour's Lost. The full quote goes: "Light, seeking light, doth light of light beguile; So ere you find where light in darkness lies, Your light grows dark by losing of your eyes." It's a warning against spending too much of your life in scholarly pursuits.

Bad Historian Revisited
The Times of London reviews Tom Wood's The Politically Incorrect Guide to the History of America; read it here. The review is noncommittal on the worth of Woods' project. I have already stated my views in an earlier post. Woods is right to say that the textbooks currently available are hopelessly biased toward the left and that a corrective is badly needed. But this is not it. His account is so biased toward the right that it is no better than the texts he criticises.
