Iraqi TV

Omar at Iraq the Model reports that Al Iraqiya TV has been broadcasting interrogation sessions with captured terrorists. These shows provide a fascinating look into the mindset of the "insurgents." Most are Iraqis, although there are a number of foreigners. Most of the latter are from Sudan. The Iraqis involved are either former Baathists or common criminals who were being paid approximately $200.00 for each act. One point that leaps out of the account is the lack of religious motivation. These are poor people who kill for money. It is also clear that the Baathists have infiltrated the Iraqi Police and are getting inside information to guide their attacks. But most importantly, this show, which is wildly popular, has been rallying public support against the terrorists. Omar closes with these thoughts:
Here in Iraq, it [the public interrogations] DID make a difference as it helped more people who had uncertain thoughts about the "insurgency" get the right picture of the nature of the "insurgents" motivations, goals and ideology. And I think it will also have a positive effect on the performance of the security forces.

The progress may be happening slowly but the situation is promising; the people and the security forces are actively building a untied front to face terrorism and this is what we really need to secure our country.

This site is an invaluable resource for anyone seeking to make sense out of what is happening in Iraq. Check it out.
