More Gitmo Follies

AP reports:
WASHINGTON (AP) - The Taliban's new top operations officer in southern Afghanistan had been a prisoner at the Guantanamo Bay detention center, the latest example of a freed detainee who took a militant leadership role and a potential complication for the Obama administration's efforts to close the prison.

U.S. authorities handed over the detainee to the Afghan government, which in turn released him, according to Pentagon and CIA officials.

The Bush administration kept trying to tell us that these were really, really bad guys, but we wouldn't listen, and now some of them are free to kill and kill again. These are not mere criminals -- they are our enemies. They are bent on our destruction. Witness this document written by five Guantanamo detainees:

WASHINGTON (AFP) — Five men charged with plotting the September 11 attacks say the charges against them are "badges of honor" and that killing Americans was an offering to God, in court documents released Tuesday.

A few quotes:
"To us [the charges of terrorism] are badges of honor, which we carry with pride," the detainees said, adding: "We are terrorists to the bone. So many thanks to God."


"Therefore, killing you and fighting you, destroying you and terrorizing you, responding back to your attacks, are all considered to be great legitimate duty in our religion.

"These actions are our offerings to God," it said.

Our criminal justice system just is not capable of handling cases like these. These are our enemies, making war on us, and they are properly dealt with under military, not civilian law.
