Our Nordic Expedition, Part 24 -- Riding Through Vesteralen

Autumn foliage was just past its peak in Sortland. As we drove south through the island of Hinnoya we passed from one gorgeous vista to another.

Past isolated homesteads.

Through picturesque fishing villages.

To places where the mountains run down to the sea.

Finally we wound up at Refsnes, where we caught a ferry over to the next island, Langoya.

Then we drove south toward through amazing landscapes toward Stokmarknes where we were to rejoin the ship.

A small settlement along the Hognfjord, as lovely a setting as I have ever seen.

The village of Gombogen.

At last we arrived at the bridge that would take us across to the island of Hadsel and the town of Stokmarknes.

As we passed across the bridge we saw our ship entering the harbor below. Soon we were again ensconced in our cabins and settled in for the long voyage southward.
