Maryland Politics -- Democrat Dirty Tricks Again, and Again, and...

The Washington Times reports:
Two members of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee have resigned after admitting they obtained Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael S. Steele's credit report.
....
A source familiar with the investigation said the employees were "senior staff" members in the research department of the DSCC.
The Dems have apologized and promised [snicker] not to reveal any of the information gathered. The FBI is on the case.

Read the whole sordid thing here.

The WaPo reveals the names of the malefactors.
The DSCC, the arm of the Democratic Party tasked with promoting Senate candidates, declined to disclose the names of the employees involved. But sources with knowledge of the episode identified them as Katie Barge, the committee’s former research director, and Lauren Weiner, an employee who had been researching Steele even before he formed an exploratory committee for Senate in June.
Read it here.

Of course the WaPo then went on to discuss in some detail Steele's past financial difficulties. [Sneaky, guys, and not entirely ethical.]

Names to remember -- Katie Barge and Lauren Weiner. I wonder when and if we'll hear from them again?

This is bad enough -- but it pales in comparison with what the Cardin people have been doing to Kweisi.

Maryland Democrats -- sigh!

The story is spreading -- it has been picked up by Newsday, which adds this snippet of information."In July, these two staffers basically requested every document the lieutenant governor ever signed and every document pertaining to travel while he was in office."

Newsday also noted that Barge formerly worked for David Brock's "Media Matters" organization, and that Weiner was just a "junior staffer."

The Sun, of course, at first tried to ignore the story -- reducing it to a small item in the metro digest [here].

But as attention spread they had to promote it but still were able to minimize its impact. Today Andrew Green reported that Steele was urging legal action against the Democrats, but links it to an interview with Larry Sabato in which he says that Republicans as well as Democrats routinely engage in "dirty politiking". "It's spy versus spy, and the Democrats' spies just got caught," Sabato said."

UPDATE:

Hugh Hewitt is all over this scandal and is even running a contest to name it. Check out his numerous posts here -- just keep scrolling down.

And, Michelle Malkin is on the case here.
