To clarify: the title is excerpted from Act 1 of Shakespeare's Love's Labour's Lost. The full quote goes: "Light, seeking light, doth light of light beguile; So ere you find where light in darkness lies, Your light grows dark by losing of your eyes." It's a warning against spending too much of your life in scholarly pursuits.

SUV Update -- Brinkley Redux
In an earlier post I noted that Douglas Brinkley's SUV was a life-saver in the Katrina emergency and wrote that even urbanites can from time to time have need of these wonderful machines. [here] The complex and interlocking support systems that allow urbanites to exchew SUVs are not so reliable that an off-road vehicle can't come in handy every once in a while.
Todd Zywicki over at the Volokh Conspiracy makes the same point so to speak and elicits some spectacularly stupid comments from uninformed readers. Read him here.
