King David's Palace: probably not

I haven't blogged the potentially explosive reported discovery of King David's palace in Jerusalem simply because I didn't believe it. The NYT outlines the reasons to be skeptical of the archaeologist's claims. Read it here.

The problem with Israeli archaeology is that it has been so infused with political significance that every tiny scrap of evidence must be received with a healthy dose of skepticism. Come to think of it, that's a pretty good way to view all archaeological claims everywhere.
